Quark Inc. and Global Graphics have signed a multi-year agreement under which new features in forthcoming Quark products will be based on Global Graphics’ eDocument Library, a powerful new library for software application developers that allows them to integrate file format conversion, manipulation, analysis and optimization capability into their products.
Tim Banister, general manager of desktop products for Quark said, “We chose to partner with Global Graphics on the strength of their eDocument Library. By working with Global Graphics we are able to stay on the cutting-edge of the technology behind emerging file formats, from PDF and beyond, so that we can offer the best solutions to our customers.”
Quark uses the Jaws PDF Library™ to provide direct PDF output for high-end printing and cross media publishing from QuarkXPress, Quark’s page layout and design software. Quark also uses another Jaws® component to provide full-resolution preview for EPS files that can be scaled or magnified with minimal pixelation, permitting page elements to be positioned more precisely. The eDocument Library is Global Graphics’ next generation of technology for electronic document applications and will eventually replace Jaws PDF Library whose functionality it significantly extends.
The engine at the heart of the eDocument Library is powerful enough to provide multiple file format conversions. Any number of PDLs can be added including PDF, PostScript®, PCL, XPS, proprietary formats, and open standards such as PDF/A and PDF/X. With eDocument Library the application developer also has unprecedented access to page-level and object-level information. Via the comprehensive Application Programming Interface eDocument Library offers complete access to and manipulation of the objects, parameters and metadata of a document during the conversion process, including text, images, fonts, color space. Page-level access to documents is also possible including page orientation, bookmarks, annotations, thumbnails and page labeling.
