Global Graphics PLC: Proposed acquisition of HYBRID Software Group

Cambridge (UK), 10 December 2020 (08.00 CET): Global Graphics PLC (Euronext: GLOG) announces today that it has entered into a binding conditional agreement with Congra Software S.à r.l. (“Congra”) for the proposed acquisition of the entire issued share capital of HYBRID Software Group S.à r.l. (“HYBRID Software”) from Congra.

HYBRID Software is a group of software development and marketing companies focused on enterprise software for the graphic arts industry, with a strong focus on labels and packaging.  HYBRID Software is registered in Luxembourg and has subsidiaries in Belgium, Germany, Italy, France and the USA.

HYBRID Software’s two main product lines, CLOUDFLOW and PACKZ, offer a unique set of advantages that include native PDF workflow and editing, variable data linking and imposition, vendor-independent solutions based on industry standards, scalable technology and low total cost of ownership. These products are used by more than 1,000 customers worldwide in all areas of pre-press and printing, including labels and packaging, folding cartons, corrugated, and wide format.

Consideration for the acquisition is EUR 80 million which will be satisfied in full by issuing 21,074,030 Global Graphics shares to Congra (the “Consideration Shares”). The number of Consideration Shares to be issued to Congra has been calculated based on the volume-weighted average of the closing price per Global Graphics share for each of the last 30 trading days prior to the date of signing the conditional agreement, and represents an implied price per Consideration Share of EUR 3.80. Assuming successful completion of the acquisition and following the issue of the Consideration Shares to Congra, Congra’s aggregate shareholding in Global Graphics will amount to 82.16 per cent of the enlarged issued share capital of Global Graphics (excluding shares held in treasury). The acquisition remains conditional upon, amongst other customary conditions, the passing of a shareholder resolution at a forthcoming general meeting of Global Graphics to be held on 8 January 2021.

Global Graphics companies showcase innovation at Printing Expo online

 

Cambridge, UK, 30th November 2020: Global Graphics companies, Meteor Inkjet, Xitron and Global Graphics Software, are among the first wave of exhibitors at Printing Expo online, a new virtual exhibition that opens today where exhibition stands are rendered out to real physical dimensions to give visitors an immersive experience 365 days of the year.

Mimaki creates new, improved RIP “Rasterlink™7” with Harlequin

Cambridge, UK, 4 November, 2020:  Global Graphics® Software has licensed the Harlequin RIP to Mimaki Engineering, a leading manufacturer of wide-format inkjet printers, cutting plotters, and 3D modeling machines, to create the new RIP software RasterLink7 that will be available with Mimaki printers worldwide from December 2020.

Mimaki printers are used by sign and graphics, textile and apparel, and industrial printing professionals around the globe. RasterLink7 improves performance and enhances quality as well as introducing new features such as variable data printing for applications such as sports apparel, card printing, name tags stickers and labels. Shipments are expected to be in the region of 10,000 Units a year.

RasterLink7 was announced by Mimaki on 4 November at the launch of their new JV100-160 and UJV100-160 presses for sign and graphics.

  

“Our objective in choosing Harlequin as the core of our genuine Mimaki RIP is to improve the performance of our products,” says Satoshi Kaneko, General Manager of software design department, MIMAKI ENGINEERING CO., LTD.. “Customers will see that the RIP processing time for PDF files is considerably shortened.  There are significant quality improvements too; PDF transparency processes correctly and we have found that the expression of thin lines is improved.”

Global Graphics’ local office in Tokyo provided responsive technical support to Mimaki. They worked closely with Mimaki engineers in a number of areas to introduce unique functionality for Mimaki customers. These included multi-layer printing, the replacement of colors in graduated tints, exporting contours for cutters, and the addition of texts and graphics to submitted jobs for variable data printing. The variable data feature was implemented using the dynamic overlays in Harlequin which are specifically designed for those printing applications that require a simple form of VDP support. It combines a single background page with overlay graphics, such as text and images, that are selected using data from a file supplied in CSV format.

Harlequin is a Raster Image Processor, or RIP. A RIP is a tool for converting a page description language such as PostScript® or PDF into a format that a printing device such as an inkjet printhead, toner marking engine or laser platesetter can understand. The format that it outputs may be a raster file format such as TIFF™, or it may be a stream of raster data that is delivered more or less directly to the printing device. The exact format delivered may be tuned for each integration.

MUTOH creates new generation RIP based on Harlequin technology

Agreement covers all major inkjet models 

Cambridge, UK 28 Oct, 2020:  Global Graphics® Software has licensed the Harlequin Host Renderer to MUTOH, the Japanese manufacturer of wide format inkjet printers and sign cutting plotters, in a contract spread over multiple years. The agreement includes licensing Global Graphics’ new Opal Advanced Inkjet Screens™ to provide high-quality half-tone screening specially developed for inkjet printing.

The Harlequin Host Renderer is being integrated into VerteLith™, MUTOH’s RIP software, and will be available to MUTOH customers via a download service from the beginning of November this year, initially for the UV machines VJ-1638UR/UH and XPJ-461/661UF and ultimately for all the major models sold, including the eco-solvent machines.

“By making extensive use of the Harlequin Host Renderer features,” says MUTOH’s Mr. Norishige Kakuno, Executive Engineer, “VerteLith™ delivers advanced features that conventional RIP software does not offer such as avoiding printing jobs incorrectly by displaying a soft proof and ripped image preview, and ink cost calculation before printing.”

“Additionally, while conventional RIP software mainly targets roll media, VerteLith™ is the new all-in-one RIP software covering most features required for roll media printing as well as integrating a jig layout tool to improve usability for UV flatbed printers. It saves a lot of time and effort by enabling auto-image positioning of the printing material on the flatbed table or auto-page layout on each individual jig slot. The jig layout tool is just one example of the new features being offered to improve customer’s efficiency and to develop new markets.”

With the Harlequin Host Renderer MUTOH has experienced significantly improved RIP processing times for both PDF and PostScript® files as well as improved accuracy in printing PDF files with live transparency and spot colors. Features such as soft proof were easy to implement with Harlequin’s in-RIP color management and the ease of use of the Harlequin core technology shortened the development time of new features and functions.

Global Graphics’ Japanese office in Tokyo provided responsive technical support to MUTOH; they worked closely with MUTOH engineers, often with daily contact.

MUTOH expects VerteLith™ to lead to the development of new markets as well as being made available to existing customers. It will drive the VJ-1638UR/UH and the XPJ-461/661UF initially. The VJ-1638UR/UH printer is designed for in-store promotion prints & deco graphics, floor & window graphics, customized structured wallpapers, event banners and exhibition graphics whereas the XPJ-461/661UF produces added value personalized prints and bespoke small-lot production of commercial and industrial print applications such as printing on phone covers, promotional items, small signs, and small series production or prototyping of packaging samples, or decorative tiles.

Global Graphics Software on a winning streak

Global Graphics Software, a leading developer of core technology for digital print including the Harlequin RIP®, has won a 2021 Buyers Lab (BLI) Outstanding Innovation award in Production Print from Keypoint Intelligence for its Direct range.  Direct is a new graphics pipeline that sends data directly to the inkjet printhead electronics, removing the intermediate step of writing to disk. As a result, image processing times are significantly reduced, large volumes of data are handled with ease, and the time to print is accelerated.

Version 13 of the Harlequin Host Renderer, the printing industry’s fastest RIP, adds automatic tiling to maximize the throughput of huge PDF, TIFF™ and JPEG files such as those generated in the corrugated packaging, wide and grand format, décor and textile markets. Harlequin 13 automatically tiles these large pages – some can be up to 200 meters/650 feet long – to split them across multiple RIPs for increased speed and improved load balancing.

Output is continuously streamed to the printer so that print service providers don’t have to wait for the entire page to be RIPped before printing can begin. This new feature minimizes RAM requirements and costs for a digital front end (DFE) processing very large output.

“The new tiling feature is specifically for high-speed digital printing,” says Martin Bailey, Global Graphics Software’s CTO. “Automatic tiling helps in maximizing throughput by splitting the output across several RIPs. It also reduces the cost for a DFE built to handle huge PDF pages, either every day or as an occasional occurrence, because the peak memory usage for a tile can be much lower than that for the whole page.

“Speed continues to be a key focus of Harlequin development, because a faster RIP enables presses with very high data rates to be driven at engine speed and reduces the bill of materials for a digital front end (DFE) or controller.”

Version 13 also introduces many other features including:

  • Direct printing of PNG files, an important file type in some sectors of wide format and product decoration, in addition to PDF, PostScript, EPS, TIFF, JPEG etc. Consistent color management and halftone screening can be added for all input formats using a common API.
  • Enhanced controls over sizing of output from image file formats such as TIFF, JPEG and PNG where the image does not specify a size.
  • Extended Advanced Inkjet Screens (AIS) with the introduction of Opal; especially good at mitigating artifacts when inkjet printing on absorbent substrates at higher resolutions. AIS increase the perceived quality, and therefore saleability, of inkjet prints, and can enable the use of lower cost substrates.
  • Extended support for larger DFEs, scaling from a single RIP instance, through multiple RIPs on the same server, to multiple RIPs on each of multiple servers.

The Harlequin Host Renderer (HHR) is supplied as a component or pre-packaged with a parallel processing pipeline as Harlequin Direct to enable OEMs to achieve the fastest possible time to market and to revenue while building a highly sophisticated and high-quality DFE for a high-speed digital press.

It’s the print engine at the heart of the industry’s highest performing digital presses in products from vendors including Roland DG, Durst, HP Indigo and HP PageWide, powering their entire fleet.

Nuove funzionalità, tra cui l’affiancamento automatico per l’elaborazione di prodotti su larga scala ad alta velocità e grandi schermi avanzati a getto d’inchiostro, che offrono una migliore qualità delle immagini, sono state introdotte in una nuova versione importante di Harlequin RIP® dagli sviluppatori di Global Graphics Software.  Harlequin Host Renderer 13 innalza il livello in termini di funzioni di produttività per i provider di servizi di stampa e fornisce nuove opzioni ai produttori di sistemi di stampa per consentire di scalare più RIP per i front-end digitali ad alte prestazioni.

La versione 13 di Harlequin Host Renderer, il RIP più veloce del settore della stampa, aggiunge l’affiancamento automatico per massimizzare la velocità di file PDF, TIFF™ e JPEG di grandi dimensioni, come quelli generati per imballaggi in cartone ondulato, grandi formati, arredi e nel settore tessile. Le pagine vengono trasmesse continuamente alla stampante, in modo che i provider di servizi di stampa non siano costretti ad attendere che l’intera pagina venga elaborata dal RIP prima di iniziare la stampa. Questa nuova funzione riduce al minimo i requisiti e i costi della RAM per l’elaborazione di un front-end digitale (DFE) con un output molto ampio.

“La nuova funzione di affiancamento è specifica per la stampa digitale ad alta velocità”, afferma Martin Bailey, CTO di Global Graphics Software. “L’affiancamento automatico aiuta a massimizzare la velocità di stampa dividendo le pagine in più RIP. Inoltre, riduce i costi necessari per la creazione di un DFE per gestire pagine PDF di grandi dimensioni, sia ogni giorno che come evento occasionale, poiché il picco di utilizzo della memoria per un affiancamento può risultare molto inferiore rispetto a quello richiesto per l’intera pagina.

La versione 13 introduce anche molte altre funzioni, tra cui:

  • Stampa diretta di file PNG, un importante tipo di file in alcuni settori dei grandi formati e della decorazione dei prodotti, oltre a PDF, PostScript, EPS, TIFF, JPEG e così via. È possibile aggiungere una gestione coerente del colore e uno screening dei mezzitoni per tutti i formati di input utilizzando un’API comune.
  • Sono stati migliorati i controlli sulle dimensioni dell’output da formati di file di immagine quali TIFF, JPEG e PNG, in cui l’immagine non specifica una dimensione.
  • Grandi schermi avanzati a getto d’inchiostro (AIS) con tecnologia Opal; particolarmente utili per mitigare gli artefatti durante la stampa a getto d’inchiostro su supporti assorbenti alle risoluzioni più elevate.   • Supporto esteso per DFE più grandi, scalando da una singola istanza RIP, tramite più RIP sullo stesso server, a più RIP su ciascuno dei server.

Harlequin Host Renderer (HHR) viene fornito come componente o integrato con una pipeline di elaborazione parallela come Harlequin Direct per consentire agli OEM di ottenere il più rapido time-to-market e generare profitti, creando, al contempo, un DFE altamente sofisticato e di alta qualità per un sistema di stampa digitale ad alta velocità.

Die Entwickler von Global Graphics Software stellen heute innovative neue Funktionen wie automatische Kachelung für die Verarbeitung umfangreicher Ausdrucke mit hoher Geschwindigkeit und erweiterte Advanced Inkjet Screens für verbesserte Bildqualität in einer neuen Version von Harlequin RIP® vor. Der Harlequin Host Renderer 13 setzt neue Maßstäbe bei Produktivitätsfunktionen für Druckdienstleister und bietet Druckmaschinenherstellern neue Optionen zur Skalierung mehrerer RIPs für hochleistungsfähige Digital Front Ends.

Version 13 von Harlequin Host Renderer, der schnellste RIP der Druckbranche, bietet zusätzlich automatische Kachelung, um den Durchsatz großer PDF-, TIFF™- und JPEG-Dateien zu maximieren, wie sie zum Beispiel bei Wellpappenverpackungen, für breite und große Formate sowie Dekorationen und für den Textilvertrieb generiert werden. Harlequin 13 teilt diese großen Seiten – die zum Teil bis zu 200 m lang sein können – automatisch auf mehrere RIPs auf, um die Geschwindigkeit zu erhöhen und den Lastausgleich zu verbessern.

Die Ausgabe wird kontinuierlich an den Drucker übertragen, sodass Druckdienstleister nicht warten müssen, bis die gesamte Seite geRIPt ist, bevor der Druckvorgang gestartet werden kann. Diese neue Funktion minimiert den RAM-Bedarf und die Kosten für die Verarbeitung eines sehr großen Digital Front Ends (DFE).

  • Direktes Drucken von PNG-Dateien – ein wichtiger Dateityp in einigen Bereichen mit Querformat und in der Produktdekoration – zusätzlich zu PDF, PostScript, EPS, TIFF, JPEG usw. Konsistentes Farbmanagement und Halbtonrasterung können für alle Eingabeformate über eine gemeinsame API hinzugefügt werden.
  • Erweiterte Steuerelemente zur Größenanpassung der Ausgabe aus Bilddateiformaten wie TIFF, JPEG und PNG, bei denen keine Größe angegeben ist
  • Erweiterte Advanced Inkjet Screens (AIS) mit der Einführung von Opal; besonders gut geeignet zur Minderung von Artefakten beim Tintenstrahldruck auf saugenden Substraten mit höherer Auflösung. AIS erhöht die wahrgenommene Qualität und damit die Verkäuflichkeit von Tintenstrahldrucken und ermöglicht somit die Nutzung kostengünstigerer Substrate.
  • Erweiterte Unterstützung für größere DFEs, Skalierung einer einzelnen RIP-Instanz über mehrere RIPs auf demselben Server bis zu mehreren RIPs auf jedem einzelnen von mehreren Servern.

El número 13 de la nueva versión de Harlequin RIP es sinónimo de buena suerte

El RIP más rápido del sector cuenta con nuevas funciones para la producción a gran escala, como la decoración, los textiles y los embalajes corrugados

El nuevo Harlequin RIP®, presentado hoy mismo por los desarrolladores de Global Graphics Software, cuenta con funciones innovadoras, como la disposición en mosaico automática para la producción a gran escala y a alta velocidad, y las pantallas Advanced Inkjet Screen, con una calidad de imagen mejorada. Harlequin Host Renderer 13 sube el listón en lo que se refiere a las características de productividad de los proveedores de servicios de impresión, y ofrece nuevas opciones a los fabricantes de imprentas para que puedan escalar varios RIP para los sistemas frontales digitales de alto rendimiento.

La versión 13 de Harlequin Host Renderer, el RIP más rápido del sector de la impresión, cuenta con una disposición en mosaico automática que permite maximizar el rendimiento de los archivos PDF, TIFF™ y JPEG de gran tamaño, como los destinados a los embalajes corrugados, de gran formato y panorámicos, y los sectores textil y de la decoración. Harlequin 13 dispone en mosaico automáticamente estas páginas de gran tamaño (algunas con una longitud de hasta 200 metros/650 pies) para dividirlas en varios RIP y así aumentar la velocidad y mejorar el equilibrio de carga.

La impresora obtiene esta información de forma continua, de modo que los proveedores no tienen que esperar a que la página entera se procese para empezar a imprimir. Esta nueva función minimiza los requisitos y costes de RAM para la producción a gran escala con sistemas frontales digitales (DFE).

“La nueva disposición en mosaico está específicamente diseñada para la impresión digital de alta velocidad”, afirma Martin Bailey, director técnico de Global Graphics Software. “La disposición en mosaico automática ayuda a maximizar el rendimiento dividiendo la producción en varios RIP. También reduce el coste de un DFE creado para gestionar páginas PDF de gran tamaño, ya funcione a diario o de forma ocasional, puesto que el uso máximo de memoria para un mosaico puede ser mucho menor que el de toda la página.

“La velocidad sigue siendo un elemento clave del desarrollo de Harlequin, ya que un RIP más rápido permite que las imprentas con velocidades de datos muy altas se puedan mover a la velocidad del motor y reducir así la lista de materiales necesarios para un sistema frontal digital (DFE) o un controlador”.

La versión 13 también presenta muchas otras características, entre las que se incluyen:

  • Impresión directa de archivos PNG (un tipo de archivo importante en algunos sectores de formato panorámico y decoración de productos), además de PDF, PostScript, EPS, TIFF y JPEG, entre otros. Se puede añadir una gestión uniforme del color y una serigrafía de semitonos a todos los formatos de entrada utilizando una API común.
  • Controles mejorados del tamaño de salida de imágenes en formato TIFF, JPEG y PNG, donde la imagen no especifica el tamaño.
  • Pantallas Advanced Inkjet Screen (AIS) ampliadas con un nuevo ópalo, que es especialmente útil para mitigar las imperfecciones al imprimir con inyección de tinta en sustratos absorbentes con resoluciones más altas. Estas pantallas aumentan la calidad percibida y, por lo tanto, facilitan la venta de las impresiones por inyección de tinta, y además permiten el uso de sustratos más económicos.
  • Compatibilidad ampliada con sistemas frontales digitales de mayor tamaño, escalando desde un único RIP hasta varios RIP en cada uno de los servidores, pasando por varios RIP en el mismo servidor.

Harlequin Host Renderer (HHR) se suministra como componente o de forma anticipada con una tubería de procesamiento paralela como Harlequin Direct para permitir que los fabricantes de equipos originales puedan comercializarlos lo antes posible y obtener ingresos a la vez que consiguen un sofisticado DFE de gran calidad para una impresión digital de alta velocidad.

Este motor de impresión forma parte de las imprentas digitales de mayor rendimiento del sector de proveedores como Roland, Durst, HP Indigo y HP PageWide, impulsando así toda su flota.

El software VersaWorks 6 RIP de Roland DG se utiliza en todos los modelos actuales de sus impresoras y cortadoras. Su rendimiento es extraordinario y, como está preparado para procesar formatos PDF y PostScript, gestiona los archivos con total facilidad. La compatibilidad con PDF 2.0 también ha sido un factor importante para garantizar nuestro flujo de trabajo en el futuro. Dado que cada vez se utilizan más transparencias en los trabajos de los clientes, la capacidad de Harlequin para procesarlas sin ninguna dificultad acelera el tiempo de producción y reduce los residuos. VersaWorks 6 ha añadido recientemente una importante función conocida como ‘Asistente de trabajo’, que permite a los clientes añadir de manera automática líneas de contorno cortadas para los archivos de diseño PDF sin tener que volver al software de diseño”.
