Hybrid Software Group releases Q3 results

Cambridge (UK) 26 October 2023 (08.00 CEST) – Hybrid Software Group PLC (Euronext: HYSG) provides a trading update for the nine months ended 30 September 2023.

CEO Mike Rottenborn comments, “The third quarter of 2023 was marked by overall consistent performance compared to the same period of 2022, with consolidated revenues up 3% and yielding a 19% EBITDA margin. Last year’s third quarter EBITDA was very favourably impacted by the one-time sale of an unused asset (approximately 69,000 IPv4 internet addresses) for a net amount of €3.3 million. On an equivalent basis, EBITDA for the quarter increased to €1.9 million from €1.3 million a year ago.

In September the company attended Labelexpo Europe in Brussels, Belgium and successfully launched several significant products for label and packaging production.  A major new OEM also introduced SmartDFE, an integrated Digital Front End for digital printing devices built with leading-edge technology from across Hybrid Software Group, at Labelexpo.  Q4 will bring additional exhibitions in the USA and China to further promote our products.

Although business conditions remain challenging in many of our markets, we have a tight control on costs and strong products to insure profitable growth now and in the future.”

 

Financial highlights for the nine months ended 30 September 2023

The following information is unaudited.

For the quarter ended 30 September 2023

  • Revenue for the period was €11.65 million (2022: €11.29 million)
  • EBITDA for the period was €1.95 million, or 17% of revenue (2022: €4.58 million, 41% of revenue, including €3.3 million of non-recurring revenue from the IPv4 internet address sale)

For the nine months ended 30 September 2023

  • Revenue for the period was €36.54 million (2022: €34.73 million)
  • EBITDA for the period was €5.66 million, or 15% of revenue (2022: €9.20 million, 26% of revenue, including €3.3 million of non-recurring revenue from the IPv4 internet address sale)

Hybrid Software Group brings full stack of solutions for industrial printing to PRINTING United Expo 2023

Hybrid Software Group will be showcasing its wide array of software solutions and printhead electronics for packaging and all forms of digital and conventional industrial printing at booth #B8079 during PRINTING United Expo, from October 18-20, 2023. Featured will be Global Graphics Software’s SmartDFE™, which received a 2023 Pinnacle Product Award in the Technology category, and ColorLogic’s CoPrA 9 color management technology, a 2023 PRINTING United Pinnacle Product Award recipient in the Non-Output Device category.

Product highlights from Hybrid Software Group’s six operating companies will include:

  • HYBRID Software will demonstrate its complete portfolio of prepress & workflow software for labels and packaging. The updated HYBRID PACKZ editor adds tools to predict the color of printed artwork under various printing conditions, including different spot color strategies. The feature helps label and packaging producers accurately reproduce brand colors using the fewest possible spot colors—and therefore, the lowest production cost. Other recent developments include Content XML for dynamic content creation using standard markup language, and Packzimizer for intelligent ganging of digital and offset label production. MyCLOUDFLOW provides file processing, asset management, soft proofing and workflow automation hosted in the AWS cloud and professionally managed by HYBRID Software personnel. Both PACKZ and CLOUDFLOW now offer optional Colorspace modules built on ColorLogic technology for exceptional brand color matching along with cost-effective ink optimization.
  • Global Graphics Software will be presenting live demos of its award-winning SmartDFE™, the full software stack for high-speed, single-pass presses printing fully variable data. Built upon Harlequin Direct™, the world’s fastest PDF RIP, and using patented components that leverage artificial intelligence and machine learning, it provides rasterization and inkjet drop generation for the best possible image quality and fastest printing speeds. Its automation capabilities provide complete control of the print workflow as well as valuable information for QA and inspection, press maintenance and stock control.
  • iC3D Software, developer of 3D visualization and rendering solutions, will demonstrate Version 9 of its iC3D Suite. Hybrid Software Group PLC: Notice of Extraordinary General Meeting and appointment of new auditor

Cambridge (UK) 27 September 2023: Hybrid Software Group PLC today announces it has completed a competitive tender process for its group audit, overseen by the Audit Committee, which has carefully evaluated the offering of each applicant. This has resulted in a recommendation from the Audit Committee, which has now been endorsed by the Board, that a resolution be put to shareholders for approval at an Extraordinary General Meeting (“EGM”) to be held by video conference on 19 October 2023 at 13:00 hrs (GMT), appointing PKF Littlejohn LLP (“PKF”) as the group’s auditor for the year ending 31 December 2023.

KPMG LLP (“KPMG”), who were not reappointed at the Company’s AGM on 24 May 2023, will therefore cease to hold office as the group’s auditor for the year ended 31 December 2023.

Hybrid Software Group’s Global Graphics granted US patent for AI-enabled Smart Digital Front End software

Global Graphics Software, a Hybrid Software Group company and leading developer of intelligent software components and Digital Front Ends (DFEs) for manufacturers of digital printers, has been granted a US patent (Patent No. 11,720,769) for “Methods and Systems for Enhancing Raster Image Processing Using Artificial Intelligence”. This patented technology has already been embodied in Global Graphics Software’s award-winning SmartDFE™, a digital front end (DFE) for high-speed industrial inkjet presses.

“Real-time inline rasterization of variable data for high-speed digital presses poses a significant challenge, as it requires a very high constant rate of raster data to be delivered to the press. Unfortunately, the diversity of PDF files and computing hardware ensures that very complex jobs may process too slowly for inline rasterization. Compounding this issue is the vast number of PDF creators in the market, who prioritize design flexibility without considering rasterization or printing. Digital press operators have been forced to process jobs in advance—while their press sits idle—or to process jobs inline and hope that the DFE can provide data at the speed of the digital press. This risk has made the production use of inline RIPs for high-speed inkjet presses impractical until now,” explains Eric Worrall, VP of Products and Services and the inventor of the patent.

With this invention, SmartDFE harnesses the power of AI and machine learning to create an intelligent Raster Image Processor (RIP) model, uniquely tailored to each press manufacturer’s chosen computing hardware and encompassing an extensive range of over 1000 PDF operations which take place in the Harlequin RIP® that powers SmartDFE. Once trained, this model can deconstruct any PDF print job and predict the minimum constant raster data rate and hence the printing speed that can be achieved, so press operators can make well-informed decisions and effectively plan their production processes. This data-driven approach allows SmartDFE to automatically fine-tune the RIP settings for each job, using Global Graphics’ 30 years of experience in developing Harlequin as the fastest RIP in the world.

“We applied for this patent two years ago, long before artificial intelligence became an everyday term. But this is a very practical application of AI that solves some long‑standing challenges in inkjet production printing. By applying this invention to the Harlequin Direct™ technology in SmartDFE, we have the first true production-quality solution for inline rasterization on high-speed digital presses,” continues Worrall.

SmartDFE has been co-developed using components from other Hybrid Software Group companies including HYBRID Software’s STEPZ®, the native PDF job creation solution for pre-press and VDP, and HYBRID Software’s CLOUDFLOW®, providing advanced workflow automation. Global Graphics Software’s SmartDFE™ has received a 2023 Pinnacle Product Award in the Technology category. In addition, ColorLogic GmbH has also been honoured with a 2023 PRINTING United Pinnacle Product Award in the Non-Output Device category for its CoPrA 9 colour management technology.

SmartDFE is a turnkey Digital Front End for high-speed single-pass presses printing fully variable data. Built upon Harlequin Direct, the world’s fastest PDF RIP, it provides rasterisation and inkjet drop generation for the best possible image quality and quickest printing speeds. Its automation capabilities provide complete control of the print workflow as well as valuable information for QA and inspection, press maintenance and stock control. Thus, SmartDFE transforms the role of the inkjet printer: it not only meets the demands of OEMs who need to build wider and faster digital presses, but also meets the requirement to add a print subsystem to a manufacturing operation or a smart factory to produce mass-personalised products. SmartDFE™ de Global Label Software ha recibido el premio Pinnacle Product Award 2023 en la categoría de Tecnología. SmartDFE es un Front End Digital llave en mano para prensas de una sola pasada de alta velocidad que imprimen datos totalmente variables. Basados en Harlequin Direct, el RIP de PDF más rápido del mundo, proporciona rasterización y generación de gotas de inyección de tinta para obtener la mejor calidad de imagen posible y las velocidades de impresión más rápidas. Sus capacidades de automatización proporcionan un control completo del flujo de trabajo de impresión, así como información valiosa para el control de calidad y la inspección, el mantenimiento de la rotativa y el control de existencias.
