Global Graphics Software’s SmartDFE wins PRINTING United Alliance 2023 Pinnacle Product Award for Technology

Cambridge, UK, 30th August 2023: SmartDFE™, Global Graphics Software’s powerful Digital Front End for high-speed industrial inkjet presses, has been awarded a coveted 2023 Pinnacle Product Award for Technology from the PRINTING United Alliance. The Pinnacle Awards honor the development of technologies judged to be truly innovative and expected to have a significant impact on the industry.

SmartDFE is a full software stack for high-speed, single-pass presses printing fully variable data. Built upon Harlequin Direct™, the world’s fastest PDF RIP, and using patented components that leverage artificial intelligence and machine learning, it provides rasterization and inkjet drop generation for the best possible image quality and fastest printing speeds. Its automation capabilities provide complete control of the print workflow as well as valuable information for QA and inspection, press maintenance and stock control.

“We are truly honored to receive this prestigious industry award. We believe the innovation in SmartDFE will transform the role of the inkjet printer: it not only meets the demands of OEMs who need to build wider and faster digital presses, but also meets the requirement to add a print subsystem to a manufacturing operation or a smart factory to produce mass-personalized products at near mass-production prices,” comments Justin Bailey, managing director at Global Graphics Software. “SmartDFE is fully customizable, and OEMs can choose to take as much or as little from the software stack as they require to get their digital inkjet presses to market quickly and gain a competitive advantage.”

This is the fourth PRINTING United Award the company has received. Global Graphics Software’s sister company, ColorLogic GmbH, has also been honored with a 2023 PRINTING United Pinnacle Product Award in the Non-Output Device category for its CoPrA 9 color management technology, which is also a key component of SmartDFE. Hybrid Software Group PLC Publishes 2023 Interim Report

Cambridge (UK), 27 July 2023 (08.00 CEST): Hybrid Software Group PLC (Euronext: HYSG) announces it has published its half year report and unaudited condensed consolidated interim financial statements for the six months ended 30 June 2023.

The full document is available to download from the financial reports section of the Company’s web site at  https://www.hybridsoftware.group/investors/financial-reports.

Mike Rottenborn, Hybrid Software Group CEO comments, “The difficult economic conditions which we faced in 2022 continued throughout the first half of 2023, bringing challenges for Hybrid Software Group as they have for many companies.  But our guiding principles—a commitment to profitable growth and to continuous innovation on behalf of our customers—never wavered.

With the acquisitions of ColorLogic in late 2021 and iC3D in the second quarter of 2022, we have all the technology needed to accomplish our mission as the only full-stack technology provider for digital inkjet printing.  Our focus has shifted from operating six companies to integrating one company, a powerhouse of products both for OEM printer manufacturers and for end users, typically printing companies that manufacture packaging and other products using digital inkjet technology.

With inflation now trending downward in many key markets, it is possible that the worst is behind us.  But we must expect difficult market conditions to continue through the second half of 2023.  Our costs are under control and our cutting edge products are what the market needs, so we will profit from the recovery as it comes.  While the timing of the recovery is uncertain, three things are not:

  • Consumer product companies will continue to print labels and packaging
  • Manufacturing processes will continue moving to inkjet
  • Hybrid Software Group will be here at the heart of inkjet printing to serve the needs of the market

All of us at Hybrid Software Group come to work every day to execute our growth strategy on behalf of our customers and stakeholders, and I would like to personally thank our dedicated employees as well as all shareholders for your continued support”.

New release of Mako Core unleashes the power of intelligent print solutions

Mako Core SDK empowers developers to build creative and innovative print solutions across cloud, desktop, and mobile platforms.

Global Graphics Software announces the release of Mako Core™ version 7.0, a groundbreaking update to the popular SDK aimed at developers who create document processing and manipulation capabilities for print applications. Global Graphics Software is a wholly owned subsidiary of Hybrid Software Group (Euronext: HYSG), a leading developer of technology solutions at the heart of industrial printing.

Named after the mako shark for its speed and intelligence, Mako Core 7.0 introduces an intelligent Document Object Model (iDOM) that provides unparalleled access to every aspect of a document’s composition, including fonts, images, vector art, layers, and metadata. With iDOM, developers can effortlessly craft intelligent solutions tailored to the specific requirements of the print industry. Unlike other SDKs that offer generic support for various Page Description Languages (PDLs) such as PDF, PS, OXPS, and PCL across print and digital document domains, Mako is sharply focused on print.

“Mako offers developers a robust solution for processing and manipulating PDLs, with a strong emphasis on print-related functionalities,” explains David Stevenson, Mako’s product manager. “Whether you’re building a PDF viewer, editor, or a custom workflow component, Mako provides the essential print intelligence, eliminating the need for extensive developer expertise. Moreover, it serves as an excellent platform for creating cutting-edge smart print applications, incorporating technologies like machine learning and Artificial Print Intelligence, as demonstrated in our groundbreaking Streamline Direct™ product.”

Mako Core 7.0 now incorporates a powerful color management module (CMM) using technology from sister company ColorLogic GmbH to guarantee ICC profile compatibility and consistent color rendering. With its versatile APIs developers can easily evaluate and transform color properties, enabling precise corrections and streamlined workflows. Mako also offers robust support for extended gamut color, enabling vibrant reproduction beyond the traditional CMYK color space.

Version 7.0 also introduces a powerful layout engine that enables seamless text flow in paragraphs and columns, with support for right-to-left text flow as seen in languages like Hebrew. Mako customer Racami uses Mako to add more print and eDelivery features to the Alchem-e™ system. “Our customers can rest easy knowing that when it comes to Postscript, PCL, and PDF processing, they have the combined expertise of Racami and Global Graphics. Together there is not much we can’t solve,” says Matt Mahoney, executive VP of sales and marketing. “The results using Mako are rock solid both in terms of speed and reliability and there have been no issues compared with the competitive products we looked at.”

The Mako Core development team is dedicated to ensuring their customers’ success. “The support we’ve received from Global Graphics has been consistently excellent which you need to know when you are dealing with mission-critical work,” adds Mahoney.

Performance enhancements are also a key focus. Lukas Petersen, software engineer at EyeC, a leading vision technology company, says: “Since using Mako Core we now have a much more stable and reliable system. Performance is consistent and, even in very complex cases, is up to 50% faster than with the previous PDF Library we had been licensing.”

Among other tasks the Mako SDK iDOM allows you to:

  • Effortlessly convert between different PDLs
  • Create new print solutions using Mako as a powerful graphics engine
  • View PDFs with accurate overprint simulation
  • Comprehensively analyze various PDLs
  • Easily manage gigabytes of data and millions of pages
  • Achieve seamless transparency flattening using both vector and raster techniques
  • Streamline PDLs through preflighting and optimization
  • Handle complex color operations, including Extended Gamut Color (EGC) support
  • Generate new documents from raw data
  • Build precise Microsoft Windows printer drivers
  • Create accurate master images for camera- and scanner-based inspection systems

Hybrid Software Group Q1 revenue up 12% over last year

Cambridge (UK) 04 May 2023 (08.00 CEST) – Hybrid Software Group PLC (Euronext: HYSG) provides a trading update for the three months ended 31 March 2023.

CEO Mike Rottenborn comments, “The first quarter of 2023 saw recovering sales in the Printing Software segment with the first marquee sale of our new Digital Front End, SmartDFE, which drives digital inkjet presses with excellent print quality and maximum speed. Printhead Solutions revenues significantly recovered year-over-year as the chip shortages which heavily impacted Q1 2022 revenues have abated.

“Group EBITDA was up in Q1 mainly due to increased revenue. In the Printhead Solutions segment, higher input costs resulting from sourcing difficulties and higher component prices in 2022 did weigh on overall margin contribution, which will continue for some time throughout 2023.  However, we anticipate higher revenues from the Enterprise Software segment to offset this.

Although business conditions remain challenging, we have a tight control on costs to insure profitable growth now and in the future.”

Financial highlights for the three months ended 31 March 2023

The following information is unaudited.

  • Revenue for the period was €13.96 million (2022: €12.45 million)
  • EBITDA for the period was €3.25 million, or 23% of revenue (2022: €2.74 million, 22% of revenue)
